I started drinking wine when I was living in France and discovered that I loved it! Needless to say, I have enjoyed wine tasting around the world with my friends ever since. When I was a guest speaker at the Gluten and Allergy Free Show in Sydney Australia, we tried some great wines from Martinborough New Zealand based on the recommendations of various sommeliers.
We had not heard about these wines before and were only familiar with wines from Marlborough on the South Island. Because we fell in love with their Pinot Noirs, we decided to change our travel plans to go wine tasting in Martinborough.
We learned that this wine region is situated just 1.5 hours drive from Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city located on the North Island. Accounting for only 1% of New Zealand’s wine production, Martinborough has a boutique Burgundian style of wine making that is just truly delicious in my opinion!
After renting a car, we drove to taste the Wines From Martinborough which represents a collective 24 active wineries to promote the premium wines and celebrate the region’s unique diversity.
We tasted incredible Pinot Noirs at the mostly family-owned vineyards including Escarpment, Ata Rangi, Palliser Estate, Margrain, Alana Estates, Dry River Wines and Martinborough Vineyards. We shipped a lot of cases back to the States and are looking forward to going back to visit this slice of wine-tasting heaven!
