Due to working with Australian-based clients, I had the opportunity to live in Sydney and Manly for 5 months. I just love the people, the country, the beaches, the food and the wine!
I stayed for 2 months in a corporate flat with a gorgeous view of the Sydney Opera House. Then I was lucky enough to move to Manly Beach where I walked the beach everyday before taking the Jetcat or the ferry into the city centre.
For anyone visiting Sydney, I would highly recommend including Manly as one of your places to explore – it’s a must!
So I was thrilled to hear that Australian Customs and Border Protection is now allowing eligible U.S. Trusted Travelers, to use Australia’s automated border processing system, SmartGate, on a trial basis. As detailed in an earlier post, the Global Entry U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) program is my all-time favorite government initiative saving incredible amounts of time by using trusted travelers’ kiosks to avoid the long lines at customs.
SmartGate performs the customs and immigration checks usually conducted by Australian Customs and Border Protection officers. It uses state-of-the-art biometric face recognition and ePassport technology to securely, efficiently and quickly process passengers. U.S. citizens are eligible to use SmartGate upon arrival in Australia if they:
US travelers who meet all three criteria will be eligible to try SmartGate with no additional enrollment process required. CBP has partnered with the Australian Government to facilitate the entry of U.S. citizens into Australia at the following airports:
- Gold Coast
Also, remember, if planning your Australian travels with special dietary concerns, remember to pack snacks to get you to your final destination and call your airline in advance to order your gluten free, lactose free, vegan or diabetic meal!
